Many Applaud President Trump’s Supreme Court Nomination; Many Don’t
After days of Democratic Party and news media bashing of President Donald J. Trump’s first actions in the White House — including the promulgation of fake or intentionally spun anti-Trump news stories — the nation’s Commander in Chief on Tuesday night announced a critical nomination that will have an immense impact. Groups that will most likely cheer Trump’s selection are evangelicals, Catholics, law enforcement officials, members of the military, the intelligence community and others who were considered quasi-enemies of the Obama White House.
The President told the American people on Tuesday night that he nominated Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court in order to quickly fill the empty chair on the court’s bench left last year by the death of conservative icon Justice Antonin Scalia.
“Based on comments being made by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-New York), no matter who Trump nominates, they need to be prepared to be hounded and bullied by Democrats suffering from ‘Anti-Trump Derangement Syndrome.’ Already New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared his intention to pass an amendment to protect ‘abortion rights.’ The way the crowd cheered you’d think they cured cancer not prolonging the death sentence for thousands of unborn babies,” said John Calosamo, a former street cop and criminal justice instructor.
Activist group Operation Rescue’s President Troy Newman said in a press statement, “One of the reasons I endorsed Trump for president was because of the strong promises he made to pro-life leaders. Now, after less than two weeks in office, he is keeping those promises, and we are very encouraged. He has proved himself to be a man of his word.”
“We want to express our thanks to President Trump for nominating a man of such stellar quality as Neil Gorsuch to the Supreme Court,” Newman added.
Many legal scholars, attorneys and law enforcement officials said they believe Judge Gorsuch possesses superior academic credentials, including an undergraduate degree from Columbia University, and law degrees from both Harvard and Great Britain’s Oxford University.
“Absent a shock revelation, Gorsuch is sure to be confirmed. Republicans already have the votes and he will get some Democratic support too,” according to Amy Howe of the Supreme Court Blogger. To which noted attorney Jay Sekulow added: “Judge Gorsuch is immensely qualified. He has a proven constitutional conservative record. He must be confirmed.” Sekulow has argued numerous cases before state and federal courts that includes an impressive U.S. Supreme Court track-record.
Gorsuch originally was appointed to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit by former President George W. Bush. He was easily confirmed by a voice vote in the Senate. According to political strategist and former police officer Mike Baker, Judge Gorush is highly respected as a jurist on both sides of the aisle.
The conservative voters who supported Trump are concerned with any Supreme Court nominee’s stance on the issues of abortion, gun control and freedom of religion especially after eight-years of watching the U.S. swing to the far-left under President Barack Obama and the Democratic Party leadership.
While Gorsuch has not as yet ruled on any abortion cases, he has a legal reputation as an originalist in his views of the U.S. Constitution and of common law. “Judge Gorush interprets law through the original intent of the U.S. Constitution’s language.
A recognized scholar, Gorsuch wrote a book in 2006 titled The Future of Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia, in which he is quoted as saying, “All human beings are intrinsically valuable and the intentional taking of human life by private persons is always wrong.”
“Gorsuch ruled in favor of religious liberty by ruling against the Obamacare mandate that forced employers with deeply held religious views, such as the Little Sisters of the Poor and Hobby Lobby, to pay for insurance coverage that included certain contraceptives. He noted that the mandate would force those with religious objections to “underwrite payments for drugs or devices that can have the effect of destroying a fertilized human egg,” according to Operation Rescue’s press statement.
“We look forward to speedy hearings on Judge Gorsuch’s nomination, and urge the Senate to expedite his confirmation to the U.S. Supreme Court,” said Newman.
“Trump’s pick, who is known for his anti-choice positions, pro-employer rulings in labor disputes, pro-police stances, and antipathy for environmental regulation, comes amid unprecedented political and popular resistance to Trump’s presidency,” wrote Steven Rosenfeld and Jefferson Morley, writers for AlterNet.Org, a far-left website.
