Sens. Tillis and McCain Place Wager On NFC Championship Game
Senators Thom Tillis (R-NC) and John McCain (R-AZ) have wagered the delivery of a humbling Senate floor speech on the outcome of tomorrow’s NFC Championship Game between the Carolina Panthers and the Arizona Cardinals.
The wager requires the Senator representing the losing team to deliver a speech on the Senate floor congratulating the NFC champion and wishing them a victory in the Super Bowl. Those words of humility will be forever memorialized in the Senate record. The wager also requires the Senator representing the losing team to wear a tie of the NFC Champion’s team colors during his speech.
“Although I appreciate the support the Cardinals offense provided in helping me win my fantasy football league this year, their luck is going to end against the best defense in the league in front of more than 74,000 rabid Panthers fans,” said Senator Thom Tillis. “I’m looking forward to serving as the presiding officer of the Senate as Senator McCain delivers his speech detailing the Panthers’ historic season, the amazing play of their MVP quarterback, and the incredible leadership of the NFL’s coach of the year.”
“Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald wrote recently that the Cardinals ‘broke the mold of what kind of football people expect to be played in the desert’ and I have no doubt they will continue to exceed expectations this Sunday against the Panthers,” said Senator John McCain. “I confidently look forward to Senator Tillis opining on the greatness of the Arizona Cardinals next week on the floor of the U.S. Senate.”
McCain worked hard in helping Tillis win his Senate seat in a tough battle against Democrat Kay Hagan. (See video below)
